Versatile PhD is a useful resource available to you for free through the University. Go to my.pitt.edu, log in, and click on the Versatile PhD link in the right-hand column. You will find detailed accounts from others who completed an advanced graduate degree and found a job outside the tenure-track. The bios and hiring stories offer stratgies for researching, finding, and flourishing in jobs. The site also offers panel discussions of some types of jobs and networking opportunities. 

#Alt Academy is a MediaCommons project that collects essays that explore many aspects of alternative careers within the academy.
